DeHaan Hits NAIA 'A' Standard at Ball State
MUNCIE, Ind. - Over the weekend, the Taylor men's track and field team took part in the two-day Ball State Challenge in Muncie and came home with two first-place finishes and an NAIA 'A' standard qualifying mark.
Leading the way for the Trojans was Jon DeHaan in the men's pole vault. The Ada, Michigan, native vaulted a season-best and NAIA 'A' standard qualifying mark at 4.75 meters. DeHaan bested the field of 15 vaulters to take top honors in the event. Also capturing a first-place finish was Zach Hoekstra in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase. Hoekstra clocked in at 9:47.63, which is a personal-best performance for the freshman. In the steeplechase, TU found great success by landing three in the top four as Connor White and Sam Hardy took third and fourth place, respectively.
TU landed two additional top-five finishes on the day with Darryl Robinson finishing in second in the men's 400-meter dash with a time of 49.70 seconds. Taylor's Caleb Anthony contributed a third-place finish in the men's 110-meter hurdles by crossing the finish line in 14.84 seconds.
Next Saturday, Taylor will return to action on the track at the Indiana Little State Championships hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University.
