Smith Delivers First Career NAIA All-American Performance

GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Taylor men's track and field team landed their first NAIA All-American performance on the third and final day in Gulf Shores at the 2019 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships.
TU's Hunter Smith earned the Trojans' first all-American nod with a sixth-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Smith clocked in at 9:29.03 to capture sixth in the field of 16 total runners. This marks Smith's first NAIA All-American honor in either indoor or outdoor competition.
Competing for a total of 20,000 meters over the three-day championship event, Josh Roth ran his final 5,000 meters on Saturday. In the finals of the men's 5k, Roth took 12th place with a time of 15:24.69.
Also completing the 2019 season on Saturday for the Trojans were Reid Otto and Jon DeHaan. Otto started the day off for TU running in the marathon. The junior from Carmel, Indiana, clocked in at 2:56:57.42, taking 22nd place in the event. DeHaan closed his junior campaign in the men's pole vault with a 21st-place finish by clearing 4.55 meters.
