NEW ORLEANS – The Taylor men's track and field program posted the highest team grade-point average in the NAIA during the 2021-2022 year and recently collected a haul of honors from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. TU's 2021-2022 indoor and outdoor men's track program was named a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, with 10 student-athletes taking home USTFCCCA All-Academic honors.
Taylor topped a group of more than 50 teams from the NAIA to earn All-Academic Team attention after posting a collective grade-point average of 3.00 and above during the 2021-2022 year. The Trojans ended the year at 3.71, to rank No. 1 in the nation.
In addition to the All-Academic Team nod, Taylor also saw 10 student-athletes earn All-Academic honors for posting cumulative GPA's of 3.25 and above with at least two full semesters completed, while also recording a national qualifying performance during the indoor or outdoor season.
Braden Bixler, Nate Conkel, Ben Eiffert, Alex Helmuth, Liam Hesting, Zach Hoekstra, Sammy Sommers, Jake Thompson, Derek Van Prooyen and Connor White were all named as USTFCCCA All-Academic selections.
In addition to the success in the classroom, the Taylor men's track and field program also performed well on the track, highlighted by a 15th-place finish at NAIA Outdoor Nationals and a pair of fourth-place finishes at the Crossroads League Championships. Taylor's indoor and outdoor teams also combined for seven new program records, 21 individual national qualifiers and five NAIA All-American honors throughout the 2021-2022 seasons.
