JACKSON, Mich. – For the third time during the 2022-2023 indoor track and field campaign, TU's Sammy Sommers has been selected for a weekly honor, this time being selected as the Crossroads League Men's Field Athlete of the Week, as announced on Monday by the league offices.
Sommers won the individual Crossroads League Championship in the long jump with a leap of 7.16 meters on Friday. Then on Saturday, Sommers showcased his talents on the track, finishing runner-up in the 60-meter hurdles and fourth in the 4x400-meter relay to finish the meet with a hand in 23 points toward Taylor's team total.
The honor for Sommers gives the TU men's and women's track and field program six weekly honors this season and bumps Taylor Athletics to a total of 40 athlete-of-the-week nods during the 2022-2023 year.
Sommers and the Trojans are poised to cap their indoor season at NAIA Nationals on March 2 through 4.
