Robbins, Carter Sweep CL Softball Weekly Honors
INDIANAPOLIS – The Crossroads League announced its player-of-the-week award winners on Monday, and TU swept the softball honors, as senior Hannah Robbins was named pitcher of the week and junior Davis Carter was named player of the week.
The duo played crucial roles in leading RV Taylor to a 2-0 win over No. 4 Marian on Friday night, as Carter provided the only two runs of the contest with a two-run dinger in the second inning, while Robbins pitched a four-hit shutout from the circle to lead the Trojans to the upset.
Robbins went the distance in all three outings for the Purple and Gold last week, posting a 3-0 record with a 0.70 earned-run average in 20 innings of work. The Woodburn, Indiana native currently ranks fifth in the Crossroads League in ERA (1.87) and wins (14) in 2017.
The pitcher-of-the-week award is the first for Robbins this season and the sixth of her four-year career.
Carter recorded a hit in all six of TU's games last week, while also hitting a home run in three consecutive games, scoring in five-of-six contests and driving in two runs or more in four-straight games. The junior led Taylor in batting average (.438), on-base percentage (.550) and slugging percentage (1.063) on the week, while scoring six runs and driving in 10 more. Carter currently stands fourth in the Crossroads League in home runs (8), eighth in RBI (31) and seventh in slugging percentage (.604) on the year.
The player-of-the-week award is the first for Carter in 2017 and the second of her TU career.
Robbins, Carter and the RV Trojans (31-14, 23-7 CL) will return to action on Tuesday, as they host Bethel (2-39, 2-28 CL) for two games at Gudakunst Field at 5:00 pm.
