Taylor Drops Opener Against Huntington Before Storms Suspend Nightcap

HUNTINGTON, Ind. – Taylor dropped a game against Huntington (22-17, 14-13 CL) on the road Tuesday, before the nightcap was suspended in the second inning due to storms in the area.
A lineup change in the second game of the doubleheader provided a spark as a trio of seniors combined for three runs. Delaynee McCreary was hit by a pitch with one out and Kaylee Larkin followed with a single to set up Madisyn Standridge, who launched a three-run home run for an early lead.
Storms entered the area shortly after with TU leading 3-0 in the bottom of second and the game was suspended. The squads will complete the contest on Thursday, April 16th at 5:45 pm.
Taylor struggled in the opener, falling 9-1 in six innings against Huntington. Jayci Kitchen the lone starter to record a hit, with a pair of singles and a walk for the slap-hitting sophomore.
Huntington scored a [pair in the first after the Trojans had a flurry of defensive miscues and added six in the fourth to ballon the lead to eight and forced Katie Kottlowski to finish the game for TU. The lefty fired the final two and a third innings allowing just one run.
TU scored its lone run in the fifth to force another inning, when McCreary began the frame reaching base by getting hit by a pitch. She Stole second and was on third after a single by pinch hitter, Delaney Barton. Standridge fouled out to third and McCreary was able to score after the runner on first attempted to tag up and forced a throw, which resulted in a double play.
Taylor (19-20, 14-13 CL) will finish the second game against Huntington on Thursday, April 16th at 5:45 pm, before traveling to faceoff with Grace (12-30, 6-22 CL) on Friday, April 17th, with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 pm.
