UPLAND, Ind. – Taylor dropped three games against cross-county rivals RV Indiana Wesleyan (29-9, 22-4 CL) on Saturday at Gudakunst Field.
Lizzy Sinders led the Trojans efforts on Saturday, collecting three hits, a walk, a run and an RBI. Jayci Kitchen reached base three times and scored once as the top of the order did its part.
The CL foes began the day by finishing a suspended game from March 26th, which Indiana Wesleyan won on a walk off RBI in the bottom of the fifth by the score of 10-2. The Wildcats began the day up 7-2 in the bottom of the fourth, and eight of the ten runs were unearned.
The Trojans fell behind 4-0 after the first two innings in the first full game as the Wildcat starter, Avery Toole, quieted the offense.
TU had a baserunner in every inning and loaded the bases in each of the fourth, fifth, and sixth. Unfortunately, the fifth was the only frame they scored in, staring another run rule defeat in its eyes. Ava Everman was down to the final strike and ripped an 0-2 fastball to the center field wall to drive in a pair. Delaynee McCreary added a run two batters later, drawing a bases-loaded walk.
A seventh-inning rally fell short after Sinders ripped an RBI single down the right field line, plating Malina Lape and leaving runners on the corners. A strikeout ended the contest before Taylor could claw all the way back.
The Trojans struggled to get any baserunners in the final game of the day, falling 8-1 and tallying just four hits.
Three of the Trojans' base knocks came in the third inning while trailing 2-0. Sinders, Kitchen, and Grace Mullins had three consecutive singles with one out, allowing Sinders to cross the plate.
Taylor (19-19, 14-12 CL) has a key doubleheader against Huntington (21-17, 13-13 CL) on Tuesday, April 14th on the road beginning at 3:00 pm. The squads are separated by one game for fourth place in the Crossroads League standings on the line. Fourth place is assured of a spot in the CL Tournament, with fifth place forced to play a play-in game.
