#13 Indiana Wesleyan
MARION, Ind. – Taylor (24-16, 13-13 CL) dropped a pair against No. 13 Indiana Wesleyan on Monday evening on the road to begin a busy week in Crossroads League action.
The day started well for the Trojans, scoring a pair in the top of the first after Grace Mullins walked, and Madisyn Standridge doubled to set up a sacrifice fly before an RBI single by Delaney Barton for an early advantage.
Mullins continued the momentum in the second with an RBI groundout to drive in Emri Agre after she led the inning off with a single.
The Wildcats scored a run in the first and knotted the game at three off a two-run home run in the third, and the game stayed level until the fifth when Indiana Wesleyan scored six runs with two outs to grab a commanding lead.
Down by seven heading into the seventh, Claire Duncan began a rally with a pinch-hit double to lead off the frame. Mullins drove her in for her second RBI of the game, and Livie Lehmann and Barton drove in a run to cut the lead to four before the final out was recorded.
Runs were tough to come by in the nightcap as all four Wildcat runs were unearned in the fourth, and Taylor managed to cross the plate just once.
The Trojans committed two errors in the bottom of the second, allowing IWU (31-5, 21-3 CL) to plate four runs for a sizable lead early in the contest.
Taylor responded with a two-out rally in the third as Mullins singled, and Lehmann drove her in with a base knock for her third RBI of the evening and 53rd of the season, which is the second-best mark in program history for a single season.
Katie Kottlowski came in relief and threw four shutout innings after tossing over an inning of relief in the opener with one run allowed. The junior allowed two hits and struck out a pair in a display, which kept Taylor within striking distance.
A seventh-inning rally began with two down and Duncan's second pinch-hit double of the day, followed by a walk to bring the tying run to the plate. A foul out ended the game before a comeback.
Mullins had a terrific day at the plate, tallying four hits, three runs, and a pair of RBI, while Barton reached base three times in five plate appearances.
Taylor finishes a run of eight games in five days with a home matchup against Huntington (26-11-1, 15-8-1 CL) at Gudakunst Field on Tuesday, April 15, with first pitch set for 4:00 pm.
