The Trojans matched their season high with 64 kills against the Lakers and hit an impressive .304 on the way to a four-set victory to cap the Amber McClure Fayerweather Tournament.
A large contingent of Taylor students flooded Odle Arena to support the volleyball team in a variety of costumes. The student body was a factor in forcing the Lakers into 11 service errors.
The Trojans were on the edge of a first-set victory before Roosevelt (5-7) scored four-straight points to claim a 26-24 victory despite not having a lead since 2-1 before the end of the set.
TU responded by dominating the rest of the match with identical victories of 25-18 in sets two and three before allowing one more point in a 25-19 win in set four.
Reagan Salzbrenner was key after being introduced into the game and delivered eight kills without a single error on 16 swings. Lindsay Springer was dynamic in spreading the ball to the Trojan hitters, collecting 53 assists and three kills on only four attempts. Springer surpassed 1,000 assists in her collegiate career in the final set and now sits at 564 in her inaugural season at Taylor.
RV Taylor (9-4, 0-1 CL) began the day with a four-set victory over Cumberland (9-11).
After racing out to a 21-13 lead, the Phoenix grabbed ten of the next 12 points to notch the score at 23. Two attacking errors by Cumberland followed to let Taylor take the first set 25-23.
TU took set two with a comfortable 25-18 score before the Phoenix ran away with the third set to extend the match and stay alive.
Reagan Kleiman and Conway combined for a block to seal the match with the final three points and a 25-20 set victory.
Conway and Springer were honored on the All-Tournament team for their efforts. Conway paced the Trojans with 57 kills, while Springer notched 175 assists, 27 digs, 16 kills, and six blocks.
Taylor will be back in Odle Arena on Wednesday, September 13, to face off with Spring Arbor (6-6,0-1 CL) in its first home match in Crossroads League play this year.
