Early Deficits Down Trojans in CL Matchup
SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Trojans dropped a four-set match against Spring Arbor (12-10, 6-5 CL) in Crossroads League action on Wednesday night on the road.
Attacking errors plagued the Trojans, tallying 38 throughout the four sets for a .038 hitting percentage. While each squad had seven service aces, Taylor doubled Spring Arbor with six service errors.
Trialing two sets to zero and having the Cougars take the first three points of the third set, it looked bleak for the Trojans. TU turned it around quickly and tied it up at six on a kill by Gracie Conway. It was a back-and-forth until a 7-1 run gave Taylor breathing room at 19-12 before securing the set 25-18. Sarah Scott was dynamic, with nine kills without an error in the set.
The first two sets were nearly identical in how they played out. TU fell behind in the middle of each before storming back to tie it up late. Both comebacks fell just short as the Cougars finished each set by scoring three of the final four points to secure the victories.
TU (11-12, 2-9 CL) dug another big hole in the fourth and could not overcome a 9-0 deficit and dropped the set in a lopsided 25-9 defeat.
Lindsay Springer was all over the court for TU, adding 22 digs to 36 assists in another double-double outing for the sophomore transfer. Conway and Scott were the only two hitters with a positive attacking percentage and led the team with 13 and 11 kills, respectively.
Taylor gets a break from Crossroads League action, competing on the court next at IWU on Friday, October 7, with a contest against Campbellsville (10-8) beginning at 7:00 pm before two matches on Saturday, October 8.
