Trojans Finish Runner-Up at Southeastern Kentucky Invitational
LONDON, Ky. – For the second straight week the 23rd-ranked Taylor men's golf team finished runner-up as the Trojans took second place at the Southeastern Kentucky Invitational on Tuesday.
Freshman Alec Dutkowski led the Trojans on the final day with a final round score of 1-over par 73. Sophomore Trey Turner made birdies on his final two holes to card a 77 while freshman Jeremy Ray added an 80 and junior Ian Rinken finished with an 81 as the Trojans finished with a team score of 311.
The Trojans finished 35 strokes behind the hosts from the University of the Cumberlands. The 16th-ranked Patriots established a new 54-hole tournament scoring record with a total of 871 while the Trojans finished at 906. Northwestern Ohio claimed third place at 915 while the Taylor 'B' team finished fourth in the nine-team field with a three round total of 927.
Taylor's 'B' team played its best round of the tournament on Tuesday as freshman Chase Picken carded a final round 3-under par 69 while senior Stefan Fahlen added a 75 to pace the TU 'B' squad. Juniors Nathan Edwards and Seth Neal added rounds of 79 and 82 for a team total of 304 in the final round.
Picken and Dutkowski each earned spots on the all-tournament team with Picken finishing third with a three round total of 1-over par 217 (74-74-69) and Dutkowski claiming fourth at 2-over par 218 (71-74-73). The fourth place finish marked the third top-5 and sixth top-10 finish for Dutkowski in seven events this season while Picken claimed his second top-10 and sixth top-20 finish during his freshman campaign.
Turner, the reigning Crossroads League Golfer of the Week, notched his fourth top-10 finish of the season with a tie for seventh at 8-over par 224 (70-77-77) while Ray collected his fourth top-20 finish with a tie for 12th place at 14-over par 230 (74-76-80).
Senior Stefan Fahlan earned his third top-20 finish, claiming 15th place with a three round total of 233 (81-77-75) for the Trojans.
Taylor's head-to-head record for the season moves to 76-9 with the runner-up finish. The Trojans will return to action at the Saint Francis Invitational in Fort Wayne on April 1-2.
