Trojans Close Regular Season at Findlay
FINDLAY, Ohio – In the final regular season meet of its indoor campaign the Taylor men's track and field team continued to show steady progress on Friday and the University of Findlay.
Ben Byrd turned in another impressive performance on his way to a victory in the mile run with an NAIA B standard time of 4:21.74. Byrd led a foursome of Trojans across the finish line as Daniel Gerber took second at 4:26.15 followed by Alec DeVries in third at 4:28.62 and Connor Legge in seventh at 4:33.23.
The Trojans also dominated the 3,000-meters as TU runners claimed four of the top five spots. Senor Joe Beamish led the charge with a victory and a time of 8:55.94. Sophomore Hunter Smith crossed in second place at 8:58.06 followed by freshman Josh Roth in third place at 9:02.90. Senior Stephen Cho added a fifth place finish at 9:10.49.
Sophomore star Caleb Anthony added a second place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with an NAIA B standard time of 8.20 while the TU 4x400-meter relay team of Anthony, Darryl Robinson, Collen Cramer, and Kyle Shelton clocked a second place finish with a time of 3:34.32.
Taylor jumpers claimed two of the top four spots in the high jump, with freshman Marcus Gross taking second place at 1.95 meters followed by fellow freshman Adam Nichols in fourth place at 1.85 meters.
Other impressive performances for TU included sophomore Shantis Lewis posted a second place finish in the 800-meters with a time of 1:58.15 and junior Joey Ferguson claiming third place in the 600-meters with a mark of 1:25.93.
Freshman Darryl Robinson led a pair of Trojans to top five finishes in the 400-meters with Robinson taking third place at 52.92 while Cramer claimed fifth place at 53.97.
The Trojans will now begin preparations for the NAIA Indoor National Championships set for March 1-3 in Pittsburg, Kansas.
