Hesting, Sommers Hit National Standards at IWU Invite
MARION, Ind. – In the first meet of 2022, the Taylor men's track and field team opened up the action at the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational. The meet began with field events on Friday and will continue with running events and pole vault on Saturday. The Trojans came ready to compete as two men hit NAIA National Qualifying Standards.
In the weight throw, Liam Hesting launched a 17.30-meter toss and hit A-standard in his first meet of the 2022 campaign. The junior also competed in the shot put and logged a distance of 14.41-meters.
Sammy Sommers had a successful day in the jumps as the junior provisionally qualified for NAIA Nationals in the triple jump, recording a mark of 14.19-meters and claiming first place overall. Sommers then placed second in the long jump with a leap of 6.99-meters.
Fellow jumper Jake Thompson claimed third place in the long jump and fourth place in the high jump. The sophomore cleared a height of 1.91-meters in the high jump.
The Trojans will return to Marion tomorrow for day two of the IWU Invitational. Running events are scheduled to begin at 10:00am and the pole vault is set for 10:30am.
