AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League announced its weekly awards on Monday, naming Alex Berends as the Women's Track Athlete of the Week. This is the sixth consecutive week a member of the Taylor women's track and field team has landed a weekly nod from the League and also marks the third time Berends has been the individual recipient.
This past weekend at the Dr. Keeler Track and Field Invite hosted by North Central College, Berends recorded a season-best time of 10:46.38 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, which also goes into the record book as the best time in the event in program history. In addition, Berends now holds the second-best time in the NAIA in the event this season. Berends will enter the NAIA National Championships seeded second with just 2.18 seconds of separation between her and the top-seeded runner.
The final test of the 2018 season for Berends and the Trojans will be in Gulf Shores, Alabama, at the NAIA Outdoor National Championships. Competition will kick off on May 24th and will continue through May 26th.
