Halterman and Patterson Hit NAIA Standards at We Fly Challenge
MUNCIE, Ind. – Taylor competed at the We Fly Challenge over the past two days and NAIA Standards hit by Jaynie Halterman and Sam Patterson highlighted the action.
Halterman raced to the top time in the 5,000-meters in the entire NAIA this season, crossing the finish line in a remarkable 16:08.6. Halterman is the reigning NAIA Individual Champion and is the front runner to repeat, posting a mark over 30 seconds better than anyone else in the NAIA. Rebekah Firestone crossed the finish line in second with a time of 18:24.34.
Patterson won the steeplechase and hit the NAIA B Standard with a mark of 11:17.96, and the junior was joined in the top three by Elizabeth Erwin, who finished in 12:04.65.
Kiana Siefert placed second in the 100-meter hurdles, while also recording top five finishes in the long jump and triple jump, having posted the top mark from an NAIA athlete at the meet.
Addie Draper placed fifth in the 800-meters with a time of 2:16.41, which is a top-20 mark in the NAIA. Malarie Pinwar also recorded top-20 NAIA mark, finishing the 1,500-meters in 4:38.78.
Emerson Meredith cleared a height of 11 feet 1 inch in the pole vault which is the top mark for the Trojans and the best of the freshman's collegiate career.
Taylor's 4x100-meter relay team were the top NAIA squad with a mark of 47.95, which is under a second away from the program record.
The TU women compete next at the Little State Championships held at Indiana Wesleyan University on Friday, April 17th at 4:00 pm.
