Trojans Turn in Terrific Performance for Fourth-Place Finish at Little State Championships
MARION, Ind. – The Taylor women had a terrific performance at the Little State championships, placing fourth in the field of 17 schools over the weekend, with a pair of athletes taking home individual victories.
Kiana Siefert won the triple jump with a season-best leap of 37 feet four inches. The standout senior also topped the podium in the 100-meter hurdles, improving on her season best time narrowly at 14.05 seconds. Siefert capped her 28-point individual performance with a second-place finish in the long jump, leaping a distance of 18 feet six inches.
Claire Bailey gave Taylor the sweep in hurdles with a victory in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 1:05.20 and Annabel Parker came in fourth with a mark of 1:06.45.
The 4x100-meter relay team continued its outstanding season, finishing second with a mark of 47.72. Blessing Ogbeiwi, Siefert, Nicole Braz Domene, and D'Arjha Davis. Davis added points in the 200-meters with a third-place finish in 25.92 seconds.
The 4x800-meter relay team consisting of Addie Draper, Malarie Pinwar, Emersyn Funk, and Noel Bass finished third to collect six points with a time of 9:23.74. Rebekah Firestone picked up a second-place finish in the 10,000-meters with a time of 39:59.26.
Three Trojans placed in the 1,500-meters led by Sam Patterson in fourth with a time of 4:58.36. Draper followed her in fifth and Funk finished sixth, both crossing the line just over five minutes as Taylor secured 12 points.
Emerson Meredith cleared a season-best height of 11 feet seven inches in the pole vault to place fifth and split 3.5 points with sixth place. Meg Stevens added to the Trojan point total with a career best height of five feet two and a half inches in the high jump, landing her in a tie for third.
The outdoor track and field season continues on Friday April 24th at the Drake Relays with a list of invited athletes yet to be determined at the prestigious event.
