Hurdlers, 4x8 Highlight Final Day at Emory
ATLANTA – The Taylor women concluded their first outdoor meet of the 2022 track and field campaign with a third-place team finish at the Emory Invitational. Against a field of NCAA Division II and III schools, the Trojans tallied a total of 104 points, ending behind Emory in first with 138 and Colby in second with 110.
The 4x800-meter relay team kicked off the second day of competition in style as the group of Brooke Studnicki, Giovanna Domene, Corinne O'Leary and Abbey Brennan qualified for NAIA Outdoor Nationals with A-standard. The foursome clocked a time of 9:23.11 and finished first place overall.
TU's dynamic hurdling duo of Patience Sakueh and Audrey Altum finished first and second in the 100-meter hurdles finals. Patience Sakeuh clocked a time of 14.36 in prelims and hit the NAIA A-standard. She went on to finish first in finals with a time of 14.46. Altum clocked a career-best time of 14.65 in the finals, claiming second place overall and qualifying for nationals with B-standard.
Brooke Studnicki picked up eight points for the Trojans in the women's open 800-meter run. The junior recorded a time of 2:18.14 and finished second place in the event.
Stephanie Wadsworth grabbed 12th place in the shot put with a mark of 10.25-meters. Avery Birkla added a 14th-place finish in the pole vault clearing a height of 2.70-meters and Mikalya Ellis claimed 14th place in the 400-meter dash.
TU's 4x400-meter relay wrapped up the meet with a third-place finish in the final event of the day. The team consisted of Mikayla Ellis, Olivia Jeanette, Ashley Hall and Emily Johnson, as they cruised to a combined time of 4:06.90.
The Taylor women will be back in action next Saturday, April 2, on their home track for the George Glass Invitational in Upland, Indiana.
