Siefert and Halterman Card Victories for Terrific Start to Little State Championships
MARION, Ind. – Taylor began the Little State Championships with a bang on Friday evening, earning a pair of victories to help finish the day in second with 28 points.
Kiana Siefert and Jaynie Halterman were the two winners on the night for TU, Siefert in the Triple Jump and Halterman in the 10,000-meters.
Siefert soared to a distance of 36 feet nine inches in the triple jump to secure the victory and her best jump of the season in her first of six attempts.
Halterman continued her historic freshman athletic year at Taylor by breaking yet another program record. The Thompson's Station, Tennessee native beat the field by almost three minutes in the 10,000-meters with an unbelievable time of 34:06.16 to smash the program record by almost two minutes. The terrific time easily hit the NAIA A Standard and is the third-fastest time in the NAIA currently.
The final event to score for the Trojans was the first event of the day. The women's 4x800-meter relay team of Abby Mays, Noel VanderWall, Addie Draper, and Kennedy Applegate finished second, just behind NCAA Division I Purdue Fort Wayne, with a time of 9:24.38, which hit the NAIA B Standard and is the fourth-fastest time in the NAIA currently.
Taylor continues competition in the Indiana Little State Championships on Saturday, April 12, with events beginning at 11:00 am.
