Trio of Trojans Hit NAIA Standards as Halterman Sets Program Record in 5,000-Meters
JOLIET, Ill. – Taylor's women's track and field had a trio of athletes hit NAIA Standards on the first day of action at the Saint Francis (Ill.) Fighting Chance meet while Jaynie Halterman bested her time in the 5,000-meters to reset the program record.
Halterman carded a time of 16:02.58 in the 5,000-meters to improve her time by seven seconds and move into the fastest time in the NAIA this year. Rebekah Firestone and Zoe Dinius also ran in the 5,000-meters to finish their season.
The 800-meters saw a pair of Trojans hit the NAIA B Standard, beginning with Abby Mays, who ran a season-best time of 2:13.04, and followed by Addie Draper, who crossed the line in 2:14.24, which was a season-best for the sophomore.
Noel VanderWall then hit the NAIA B Standard in the 1,500-meters at 4:30.95. Freshman Kennedy Applegate competed in the 1,500-meters as well, clocking a time of 4:50.63, improving her personal best by over ten seconds.
Taylor continues competition at the Saint Francis Fighting Chance Meet on Saturday, May 10, with a trio of athletes looking to hit NAIA Standards and secure a spot at the NAIA National Championships.
