Jumpers Pace Women's Track on Day One at MCC Meet
Day 1 Results
MARION, Ind.-The Taylor women's track team scored the bulk of its points in two jumping events Saturday on day one of the Mid-Central College Conference Track & Field Championships. Through seven events scored, Taylor is in sixth place with 21.5 points.
Three Trojans placed in the long jump as Henrietta Carey led the way in fourth place with a leap of 17' 11". Quinn Foley set a new personal best of 16' 8 " to finish sixth and Carlene Johnson added an eighth place finish at 15' 10 ".
Johnson was the top Taylor finisher on Friday with her collegiate best 5' 3" in the high jump, good enough for a third place tie.
The Taylor distance crew scored the remainder of TU's points after Armila Francis placed sixth in the 10,000 with a time of 42:03.22 and the 4 x 800 meter relay team of Kelsey VanHousen, Meredith Piacentini, Ashley Henry, and Morgan Achterhoff ran 10:11.01 for fifth place.
In the sprint prelims, Taylor was dominant on the track. Entering Saturday's finals, the Trojans have the top three times in the 200 and two of the top three times in the 100 meter dash. Carey is the favorite in the 100 after running 12.12 in prelims. The sophomore also has the top time (25.41) in the 200 followed by teammates Johnson (25.79) and Stephanie Kenney (25.85).
Other Taylor qualifiers into the finals included Emily Perschbacher and Erin Price in the 100 meter hurdles.
Bethel currently leads the meet with 82 points followed by Indiana Wesleyan's 70 points.
The championships continue on Saturday with field events starting at 1:30 p.m. and the running finals will get underway at 2:30 p.m.
