Trojans Claim Pioneer Invitational Title
LEXINGTON, Ky. – It was a dominant victory for the Taylor women's track and field team at the Pioneer Invitational on Saturday as the Trojans notched a 63-point victory in the 12-team invitational hosted by Transylvania University.
The TU 4x400-meter relay team of Katie DeHaan, Margie Crosby, Miriam Wood, and Rachel Blagg posted a time of 4:05.59, three seconds clear of Kentucky Wesleyan, to win the race.
Wood and DeHaan also ran well in the 400-meter run with Wood taking third at 1:00.69 and DeHaan finishing in fourth at 1:00.76.
The Trojans dominated in the 1500-meter run with Blagg winning by nearly five seconds with a time of 4:48.23 while Taryn Seeland took third (4:55.66) and Hannah Schroder finished fifth (5:01.05). Michelle Franch, Anissa Richards, and Amanda Dibley each finished in the top ten as well.
Freshman Mae Elizabeth Gimre clocked a time of 12:17.71 to finish second in her first-ever 3000-meter steeplechase race, the tenth fastest time in TU history.
Senior Haley White, the reigning Crossroads League Field Athlete of the Week, claimed a victory for TU in the javelin with a throw of 37.97 while freshman Katrina Headlee notched a victory in the high jump for TU, clearing a height of 1.52 meters.
Taylor continued to dominate the field events as freshman Julianne Exner notched a victory in the triple jump with a mark of 10.60 meters and took second place with a leap of 5.01 meters in the long jump.
Cassie Crowder and Christina Lee each raced to top five finishes in the 5000-meter run with Crowder taking third at 21:10.13 and Lee finishing fifth at 21:35.00.
TU also got a pair of solid finishes in the 800-meter run with Sarina Oleson finishing third with a mark of 2:24.02 and Crosby taking seventh at 2:19.00.
The Trojans rolled to a 63-point victory in the team standings as TU tallied 142 points followed by Transylvania at 79. The Trojans are back in action on April 1 when TU heads to Indianapolis for the Marian Invitational.
