2011 NAIA Men's Tennis All-Americans
Felipe Bedon, a senior on the Taylor University men's tennis team, was named a 2011 Honorable Mention All-American by the NAIA Tuesday. Bedon received the All-American recognition for the first time in his career.
A native of Ibarra, Ecuador, Bedon went 12-4 during his senior campaign to finish with a four-year record of 73-15 at the No. 1 singles position and his fourth straight selection as a member of the All-Mid-Central College Conference First Team. Also a fixture at No. 1 doubles, Bedon and Weston Young combined for a 9-5 mark this season.
Bedon led the Trojans to second place in the MCC regular season with a record of 12-4 overall and 7-1 in the conference. It was the third straight second place finish for the Trojans after Bedon led Taylor to MCC regular season and tournament championships as a freshman.
"Felipe is one of the best players, both as a player and as a person, that I have had the privilege to coach in all of my years of coaching," Taylor head coach Don Taylor said. "I am happy for him because he is deserving of this award, and we are really going to miss him."
Other career highlights for Bedon include MCC championships at No. 1 singles in 2007 and 2008 and a seventh place finish at the ITA Small College National Championships in Mobile, Ala. as a sophomore. As a junior, Bedon was a perfect 15-0 (18-2 overall) in dual matches at No. 1 singles while teaming with Jack Reed for a perfect 7-0 (12-5 overall) mark in MCC No. 1 doubles competition.
Bedon's sister Germania, a junior on the women's tennis team, was also named Honorable Mention All-American by the NAIA on Tuesday.
