Three-Peat! Trojans Win Crossroads League Again

CARMEL, Ind. – For a third straight year the Crossroads League Women's Golf trophy is headed back to Upland after the Taylor women's golf team rolled to a 30-shot victory on Tuesday.
Sophomore sensation Nicole Jung become the first TU player to win the Crossroads League individual title and proved her place as the best player in the Crossroads League, claiming medalist honors and collecting her eighth career victory. The Santa Cruz, Bolivia native rolled in a 15-foot birdie putt on the final hole to post a three-round tally of 226 (77-72-77) and finish three shots clear of second place to lead the Trojans.
Taylor entered Tuesday's final round with an 18-shot cushion over Saint Francis and TU poured it on with a final round score of 310 to pull away for the staggering 30-shot win. The victory marked the third straight season Taylor has claimed the Crossroads League title, matching Marian for the most Crossroads League championships in the history of the league.
Junior All-American Maddie Thomas turned in one of the best rounds of the day with a 2-over par 74 on the 5,940-yard, par 72 layout of Prairie View Golf Club. Taylor also counted a 79 from senior Elizabeth Jackson and an 80 from sophomore Taylor French for a final round team score of 310. Junior Annie Stimmel added an 81 for TU.
Taylor's dominance extended to the individual standings as well as the Trojans claimed four of the top eight spots on the individual leaderboard. Thomas earned a spot on the Crossroads League All-Tournament team with a tie for 5th place after carding a 233 (83-76-74). French finished in seventh place at 234 (75-79-80) followed by Stimmel in eighth place at 237 (77-79-81). Jackson finished in 20th place at 253 (83-91-79).
The Trojans finished the 54-hole tournament with a total of 928 (312-306-310) while Saint Francis finished second at 958 (312-323-323) and Indiana Wesleyan took third place at 980 (326-338-316).
The Trojans collected a tournament-best 32 birdies, nearly doubling the number of birdies by the next closest team (Saint Francis-18). Jung and Thomas both led the field with eight birdies each while Stimmel was next with seven birdies and French added six birdies.
With the victory the Trojans earn the Crossroads League's automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship held May 14-17 at Lincoln Park Golf Course in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
