Taylor Falls in Road Match at Campbellsville
CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Taylor University women's tennis team opened the spring season on the road Friday, falling 7-0 to Campbellsville at the Kelly Hall Tennis Complex. The Trojans slip to 3-4 on the season, while the Tigers improve to 3-1.
Campbellsville controlled the doubles portion from the start, claiming all three matches to take the early 1-0 lead. The Tigers' Miho Akita and Juanita Quintero blanked Maddy Fuqua and Anna Stone 6-0 at No. 1, while Julieta Faisal and Evdokiia Volkova topped Evy Danemayer and Ellie Schaufelberger 6-2 at No. 2. Valentina Curli and Ekaterina Amosova completed the doubles sweep with a 6-2 win over Gracie Frazier and Delaney Dahl at No. 3.
The Tigers carried that dominance into singles play, winning all six flights in straight sets. Campbellsville's roster, loaded with international talent, proved difficult to crack across the board. Amosova defeated Fuqua 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1, while Curli posted a 6-0, 6-0 win over Jillian Darby at No. 2. Agostina Fernandez and Volkova each earned 6-1, 6-1 victories at the third and fourth flights against Schaufelberger and Danemayer, respectively. Faisal defeated Stone 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5, and Akita rounded out the sweep with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Frazier at No. 6.
Taylor's lineup featured contributions across the roster, with Fuqua and Stone competing in both singles and doubles action. Danemayer and Schaufelberger also pulled double duty, playing together as a doubles pair at No. 2 before splitting into their respective singles flights. Despite the scoreline, the Trojans gained valuable court time against a strong Campbellsville squad as they look to build toward the heart of the spring schedule.
Taylor returns to action Monday when it hosts IU East for a 6 p.m. match at the Taylor Tennis Complex.
