Trojans Edge Lawrence Tech in Season Opener
UPLAND, Ind. - The Taylor women's tennis program recorded a come-from-behind victory in their season opener on Thursday evening by downing the Blue Devils of Lawrence Tech 5-4. After falling behind 2-1 through the three doubles matches, TU responded on the singles courts by winning four matches to seal the win.
In doubles, all three contests came down to the wire. In what proved to be a pivotal win, the No. 3 doubles tandem of Corinne Hoffman and Annika Zeilstra secured a 9-7 victory while Taylor's No. 1 pair fell in a close 8-5 contest and the No. 2 pair fell 9-8 (9-7).
Trailing 2-1, the Trojans needed to win four of the singles matches to pick up a season-opening win, and they were up to the task. The bottom of the TU lineup came through in dominating fashion. Mikayla Schultz, Katelyn Gray and Molly Pile each swept their respective opponents in straight sets highlighted by Schultz and Pile surrendering just one game each in their two-set matches. All-Crossroads League performer Molly Fletchall also picked up an important win in the top-singles slot 6-4, 6-2.
The Trojans will be back in action on Saturday, August 26th at the Marian University Doubles Tournament in Indianapolis, Indiana.
